Well we battened down the hatches and braced ourselves and it wasn't two bad.
The loudest howling was about midnight. He then woke around 3am did a little bit of whimpering and went back to sleep. 5am was the big one but he only wailed for about ten minutes ( it felt like an hour!) then woke up again about 6 15am. He made a little fuss then but when I went to get him (after waiting until he was quiet again) he was lying chewing his toy so I'm marking it as a success. Fingers crossed tonight we have less crying but at least we know that he will settle!
We started with basic training yesterday afternoon and when we gave him his first little treat he just licked it for ages, being a true Lab though it didn't take long for him to realise he liked it.
We now have a speed sitter on our hands. He'll be running at you like a mad thing then slide in and sit without us saying anything waiting for his treat. Its very cute but we're going to have to do some rewarding with toys and games and save the food treats for the great results otherwise our boy will be a barrel!
He's getting much better with the toilet training, or rather Rob and I are getting much faster at spotting the signs, we've also compromised a bit in that if he doesn't go for a while or just lies down in the pen instead, if we let him out to roam the yard he goes, granted not where we want him to but the end result is the same.
Best laid plans for being strict but I'm realising a little flexibility works well for us all.

We did the 'puppy train your dog the Guide Dog' way selection tests this morning and he passed with flying colours he was an average three which means that he would make an excellent guide dog. He's obviously not going not going to be one , he's ours for good, but its a good little test to check out their personality and natural instincts.
Its a nice sunny day today so we're definitely heading out for some fresh air and socialising, at least for as long as our arms hold up!
